Echo City has been building instruments since 1983. In fact, the group began as an instrument making project, when Guy Evans, Giles Perring, Giles Leaman and David Sawyer created the Weaver's Fields Sound Playground in Bethnal Green, London.

Since then, Echo City has built numerous installations for schools, playgrounds, museums and galleries. The group has also used its touring installation, The Pod or Mobile, to bring concerts and workshops to audiences and fellow musicians all over the world.
